Why Do You Need To Have Top Commentator Contest
For your information, I’m having a top commentator contest here in my blog every month. You can check my sidebar or subscribe here to know what are the prizes you can get if you became the comment king or the top commentator.
My question is, why is it important and what are the benefits? I will answer my own question but it will be in my own opinion. I know it is really important and such a nice way also to promote our blogs.
To Promote
Contest is a nice and effective way to promote website or blog. But some bloggers can’t afford to give away big prizes like other blogs do so they are just having a mini contest or incentive to their visitors. One way is this top commentator contest. Visitors will most likely comment more and visit again on your blog if they see that you have a top commentator widget or even more if you are having a top commentator contest.
Increase Pageviews
Definitely, your pageviews will increase because visitors will be tempted to browse your archives to check for other articles that they can leave a comment.
Increase Subscribers
Yes it is possible. Visitors will be excited for new blog post for them to comment and increase their comment count. Like me, I am subscribed to those blogs with top commentator that I am active.
Increase returning visitors
They are the one we called loyal and loving visitors. We must give them a thank you as they make your blog a blog and not a static website.
Alive Blog
Imagine the difference of an house with a party and an house without a party. This can help your blog be more alive and you can see the comment number counting.
More Spammers 
LOL. It is not new that spammers exists whenever nofollow tag is removed in a blog and top commentator widget is present. But you can kill them via marking their comments as spam or deleting their comments (you have the right).
Did I forgot something? Hmmm..
Other blog I know that is giving prizes to the comment king is SlyVisions. In fact I have won for the month of July. My secret is I just subscribed to his feed to be updated and be wanred whenever he make a new blog post so I’ll be the one who willdo the first comment and start a conversation.
So you might want now to start a top commentator contest on your blog.

why spammers? I think, Akismet will easily stop all spam that tries to break your comment page
and yes, that’s really great stuff (I mean contest). you can put the thing you don’t need as the prize, and soon here would be people that need that stuff immediatly

Top commentator “contests” are a great way to entice visitors to comment, yes, but the downside of it is people tend to abuse it. I mean, yes, you can control it by rejecting the comments but then it’s kind of time-consuming if you’ve got more spammers here and there, right? Nonetheless, top commentator lists are still very effective if you’re looking to increase reader activity.

Well, what I’m practicing on my blog is that I don’t shout out loud what I’m offering but at the end of the month, I’ll surprise the Top Commentator with some goodies and it has been pretty effective for me in the last 2 months.
That way, only my loyal readers will know that there is a reward whereas the new visitors will not aware of it. No spam!

My advise to you is that don’t repeat it on another blog.
Hussein is a nice guy who let you guys make the place a two-way exchange of conversation between the two of you but other blog owners may not be as nice as Hussein.
But then with $10 carrot dangling in front of us, we are just like any other rabbits….
