Things To Do While Your Blog Is Down
Is there such thing as perfect web hosting? I don’t think there is. But I believe there is a best web hosting and I know you already know what is it — Hostgator. Maybe I am saying this because I have never experienced yet any downtime since the start of my happiness to them.
How about you? Have you already experienced downtime with your current host? If there is, what did you do while it is down? Did you just wait for it to be back again? You must not waste your time waiting or it and instead do something productive. If ever this will happen to me, I will….
- Talk or chat with the support team - I believe your web host got a 24/7 Live Support Chat (Hostgator do have), then if not, they really sucks. Ask why your site is down and how long will it last. You have the right to ask those question because you pay them.
- Visit Google - Why visit Google? It’s time to look for a better web host. You read web host review from blogs, forums, and web hosting review sites. Look for users testimonial and what are their experiences with their web host.
- Watch your stats - Watch your traffic and earning stats going down.
- Be ready for your “Sorry” post - Write a draft of your sorry post including why your blog is down for a certain time. For sure, right after your blog is back online, many will ask you what happen to your blog lately. So prepare your reasons for your reader.
- Cry - Show off all your feelings. It might affect your health if you will just keep it inside.
- Find other job - While your blog is down, don’t waste your time. You can still make money from other site. Visit forums like Digital Point and look for an opportunity.
A 1 hour downtime for a blog is really such a big deal. You will lose traffic and earnings. It might also affect you search engine rankings. But this can’t be avoided especially to those web host that sucks. What I can suggest for this not to happen to you, is you review first the web host you are about to buy before taking any action. Don’t go for cheap hosting because they will surely bring you to hell but remember also that not all expensive hosting are good. I don’t know which web host that are claiming they have 99% uptime is saying the truth. Honestly, I haven’t experience any downtime yet at Hostgator. So as of this day, they are saying the truth ![]()
Do you have any recommendations of what to do while your blog is down?

i am using a local webhost service here, but the server are located abroad. so far no downtime yet. it is actually cheap. measly 2 dollars per month.. I know the line “you get what you pay for” and in some aspects the service has limitations such as (not huge) bandwidth and disk space, but its worth the money for beginners on sample/experimental blogs and sites.
Two things i’d do if my site is down.
2. REST! we have to rest sometimes
1. research for keywords.. or highjack some

There’s no more frustrating thing than your site being totally down.

Hi, We are a WordPress specialized hosting company and we would like to invite you to try out our hosting services (and see if it would beat host gator).
Currently, we are running a 90% promotion on all new customers. Use this coupon code:
1M41Y
Do check us out: http://wpwebhost.com
@foress: Seems that your monthly price is somewhat BIG. But if we use the coupon code it will look like we need to pay only $12/month. I haven’t hear yet about this so I am afraid to lose my $12.
I don’t think I have ever had major downtime
I’m with HostGator and they seem pretty reliable, so I’m always trying to add to my blog and don’t have to worry about downtime
#6 Cry - Show off all your feelings. It might affect your health if you will just keep it inside.
ok I laughed at that one..
but I think you should add: write your future posts on word then copy and paste it later…
Dreamhost was recently down again for 3 days… a week later my sites were down for ANOTHER full day…
i’m very tempted to go to 1and1 and move all my sites.

@Acai Berry Side Effects: Well I already have a hostgator account too - it actually works. Dreamhost is great but recently it’s been REALLY tough.
7. Sleep - So you will have the energy to blog some more.
I am new to this but I guess I have had very good luck with The Planet. No complaints.
