How to Make a Proxy Site

Proxy sites allows us to browse website that are blocked by our internet provider or a firewall. This is a very helpful tool nowadays because more and more site are blocked everyday especially in schools and offices. Websites that are most blocked are Myspace, Friendster, and Facebook. Why? Because these are the sites that most students in school visit that are supposed to be not browsed in school days or office workers in office hours.
You might be already tired of blogging and you don’t make anymore any bucks. Proxy site can give you also a decent earnings like what your blog can give depending on how will your proxy site perform. In blogging, you are obliged to update it regularly or at least thrice a week. But in proxies, you can update it once a month and that is to change a theme if you want or change the ads. This does not need much time on you and I think you can spend only 1 hour per day for promotion. Regarding traffic, you don’t have to worry about because everyday, millions of people need a proxy site to browse blocked sites. Your only task is to let other people that your proxy site is ready to use.
Are you now persuade to make a proxy site? I’m sorry but I can’t show you a screenshot. But I guarantee you using Google Adsense and WidgetBucks, you could earn at least $10 a day depending on your regular number of visitor.
How to make a proxy site?
Setting up a proxy site is very easy but you need some budget as proxy hostings’ prices are not like of those regular shared hosting you see. Yes, proxy hostings are different from regular shared hosting and they are kinda more expensive. Most web hosting like Hostgator doesn’t allow proxy site on their server because proxies consumes a lot of resources. You will know later which web hosting supports proxy sites.
Domain Name
First thing on the row is domain name. Purchase first a domain name! I suggest registering your domain name on GoDaddy or Name.com. You don’t need to have a brandable or PR-ed domain name. What I suggest is you register a .info domain because it is the cheapest. You must go for the cheapest because most of the time proxy sites are being blocked by school web filters so you will lose traffic and money and you will need to register another domain name. For you not to be easily detected by web filters, don’t register a domain name including the keyword “proxy” or any other related terms. Make it shorter so that it can be easily remember.
Proxy Hosting
As I have said, proxy hosting is very different from other hosting. You better look for a web hosting that is dedicated to proxies. I suggest you to Google for proxy hostings and you will see a lot of results. If you’ll ask me what hosting I could recommend, then I highly recommend CloakHost as I have tested it for some months and they are quite good and reliable. My proxy sites never experienced downtime. The prices are reasonable and affordable.
Proxy Script
You don’t need to buy a premium proxy script because there are free proxy scripts that are available for download and works good. The proxy scripts that you can use are phpProxy, Zelune, Glype and so much more. The script I love to recommend is Glype. I don’t know why, maybe I am just comfortable with it and it is the only script I have only use ever since. Though you can try also others which I believe works good as well.
Regarding installation, there must be an installation guide on every script you will download. They are detailed and easy to follow. If there’s none, don;t bother to ask me how because I am afraid to teach you a wrong step and you will get mad at me in the end.
Templates
These is the part I usually find hard. There are very few good proxy template available for download and the best ones are for paid. If lookings doesn’t matter to you then Google for free proxy templates. But I suggest grabbing a premium and good looking one because it can help in your monetizing part.
Monetizing
Of course the number one money maker — Google Adsense. Don’t forget to add Google Ads in your proxy site. Remember that Google Adsense are not allowed to be placed on proxified page, use WidgetBucks or Adbrite instead. You can also add affiliate link/banner to make extra profit. It’s up to you on how you will monetize your proxy.
Promoting
And now, start promoting your site. Submit your site to social bookmarking sites to get some exposure. You can use SocialMarker to submit to major social bookmarking site easier and faster. Submit your site to proxy listing especially to Tech-Faq. You can see more proxy listing sites on Tech-Faq. Digital Point Forum is also a great place for promotion because some members offer free advertising on their sites, check freebies section for this.

I’ve sen a bunch of these too but never paid much attention to them I never thought they were that easy to monetize them as you explained it here in your post.

@kouji and Bruno - It is actually easy to monetize because you just let your ad codes there and gather traffic. Most likely the proxy users doesn’t have any idea of Google Adsense and other ads. The tendency is, you will get lot of clicks.

@ran: I suggest you use glype. Because phpproxy is not anymore developed. And glype is easy to configure.
